Ukraine and Russia will continue maintaining close humanitarian ties, President Viktor Yanukovych said in an interview with Mikhail Gusman of Russia-24 TV Channel, ForUm learned from the presidential press office.

"The humanitarian component of our relations is extremely important," said Viktor Yanukovych.

The President particularly noted the importance of the fact that Ukrainians and Russians had fought side-by-side in World War II. Nowadays, he said, we should preserve and honor the memory of those heroes. "This generation of champion liberators obliges us to preserve our humanitarian ties," said Viktor Yanukovych.
