35% of food products were banned and withdraw from circulation in 2011, head of the state consumers' right inspection Serhiy Orehov told a briefing, ForUm correspondent reports.

According to the official, 3563 tons of food products were inspected in 2011 and 35% were banned due to absence of documents on quality and safety.

"Specialists understand that consumer's right protection is the most urgent among social and economic issues. Inspection of quality and safety is not full without lab examination. That's why last year the government allocated for the first time in ten years special means to hold independent expertise of food quality at the amount of 1.7 million hryvnias," the official specified.

Orehov also informed that territorial departments on consumer's right protection checked in 2011 about 3.8 million items of nonfood products, and 65% of the total were banned and withdrawn from circulation.
