President Viktor Yanukovych has instructed the Government to develop and approve a plan of priority measures for 2012, to be taken in the framework of Ukraine’s integrations into the European Union, presidential press office reports.
Prime Minister Mykola Azarov was instructed to take measures to complete the procedures necessary for the initialing of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU, and prepare an action plan of implementing the 2012 National Program of Adapting Ukrainian Legislation to EU standards.
The Government is also to ensure the implementation of measures to prepare and adopt laws and other regulations pursuant to the National Plan of Action to Liberalize EU Visa Regulations for Ukraine.
The President instructed the Prime Minister to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the draft Association Agreement (particularly its parts on economic and sectoral cooperation, and deep and comprehensive free trade area) to determine if any reforms in the national economy are needed in that regard.
The Cabinet is also to prepare and agree with the European Commission a set of proposals on extending the number of ways Ukraine could get assistance from the EU in implementing the Agreement.
The abovementioned instructions are to be carried out by April 2.
Moreover, the Government was instructed to intensify the preparation and implementation of projects to modernize Ukraine’s gas transportation system with the help of the EU and international financial institutions.
Foreign Minister Kostyantyn Gryshchenko was instructed to submit by March 15, consolidated texts of the Association Agreement in Ukrainian and English languages, which are agreed with the EU.
The President also instructed taking measures to sign an agreement amending the Agreement between Ukraine and the EU on Visa Facilitation by July 1.
Besides, by July 2, the Government is to take steps to complete negotiations with the EU on the Agreement on Common Aviation Area.
