Almost 150 women express a wish to use services of a surrogate mother to deliver a child, Vice President of the Ukrainian Association of Reproductive Medicine Valeriy Zukin told a press conference "To Deliver a Child in Ukraine: the Age of an Expectant Mother and Safety of Childbirth," UKRINFORM reports.
"Surrogate motherhood is a separate type of assisted reproductive technologies. It is needed by both Ukrainians and foreigners, approximately by 100-150 persons a year," Zukin has said.
At the same time he informed that the Association of Reproductive Medicine proposed some amendments to the existing legislation in this sphere, in particular, carrying out cycles of assisted surrogate motherhood should be possible only for married couples, and also, "a surrogate mother" should not have genetic relations with a child, whom she carries.
"And the most important in Ukraine is to refuse from holding the cycles of assisted surrogate motherhood for citizens of those countries, where this procedure is banned by the law, since then problems arise with removing a child," the doctor summed up.
Valeriy Zukin also informed that a price for assisted procreation is UAH 30,000 - UAH 50,000 on average (USD 1/ UAH 7.99). At the same time, the doctor noted that among main problems of assisted procreation is not only accessibility of the procedure price for an ordinary Ukrainian family, but the limited state financing. It is received by only 5-6% of families, which are in need of assisted procreation.
