Ukraine has made a number of serious foreign policy steps that significantly strengthened its positions, President Viktor Yanukovych said at today’s celebration of the 80th anniversary of Dnipropetrovsk region, presidential press office reports.

"In 2011, the negotiations on a free trade area and political association between Ukraine and the EU have in fact completed. We expect these documents to be initialed this year," he said.

Viktor Yanukovych reminded that Ukraine is now expanding its presence in the new centers of growth in the East, West, and South, as well as actively participating in the international efforts to control nuclear materials proliferation.

The President also noted that Ukraine continues its polict to develop relations with Latin America, Asia-Pacific, and Africa.

Speaking about the development of relations with the Customs Union, the President said that the ‘3+1’ formula, proposed by Ukraine is relevant and interesting for most of the CIS countries that are too looking for a model of cooperation with this organization.
