Ukraine will actively seek to diversify its gas supply sources and develop alternative energy, President Viktor Yanukovych told journalists in Dnipropetrovsk, presidential press office reports.
"Ukraine went on to reduce the consumption of natural gas, and we have significantly reduced purchases. We are increasing the use of alternative fuels, diversifying the sources of gas," he said.
According to Viktor Yanukovych, Ukraine will continue this policy regardless of the development of gas talks with Russia. "If there is no alternative for Ukraine, our position will always be weak, we understand it well. So do our partners in Russia," he said.
