Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has proposed that imports of goods at the expense of budget funds be banned for a certain period of time.

"For a certain period of time we have to follow the rules that it is strictly forbidden to buy imported goods using budget funds if there are domestic analogues or if orders for required goods can be given to domestic production. Every kopeck of taxpayers should work, first and foremost, on domestic producers," he said, according to UKRINFORM.

Azarov instructed the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade to draw up regulatory framework that will ensure such a mechanism for procurement.

Azarov recalled that the construction sector could keep the economy "afloat" in periods when the sale of Ukrainian goods abroad is complicated.

The prime minister also demanded that exclusively domestic materials be used during the construction of infrastructure facilities in the country this year.
