The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved a feasibility study for the construction of a nuclear research plant "The Source of Neutrons" on the territory of the Kharkiv Institute of Physics and Technology.

The plant will be equipped with 38 (43) fuel assemblies of the VVR-M2 type, and uranium-235 with an enrichment level of 19.8% will be used as fuel.

The plant is to be built in two years, and construction work will begin this spring, UKRINFORM reports.

In September 2011, Ukraine agreed with the United States on the allocation of more than USD 60 million for the disposal of highly enriched uranium and the construction of a nuclear research plant.

It is expected that the Source of Neutrons will produce more than 50 different medical isotopes to treat cancer and other diseases.
