The Russian Federation stands against taxation of goods imported in Ukraine for needs of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, Russian ambassador to Ukraine Mikhail Zurabov told a press conference, ForUm correspondent reports.

"Discussion on taxes and customs duties for such goods lasts for years. International practice says that similar goods are not submitted for customs clearance and taxation. For more than a year a relevant commission has been working on this issue, and Russian officials ask Ukrainian colleagues what in fact are the grounds for VAT and customs duties," he noted.

Zubarov says it is not a big sum in terms of financing of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, but the Russian side has not received an answer yet.

According to the ambassador, Russia proposes to direct these tax payments to the financing of the social development of Sevastopol, but not to classify them as duty payments. "The negotiations are still in progress, but I feel we are close to a compromise," he said.

Zubarov also pointed out another pressing issue - non-purpose use of Ukrainian lands by the Russian BSF. "We are holding inventory of the lands, occupied by RF BSF, but only 10% of the territory has been examined for now," the ambassador informed.
