NATO's doors remain open for Ukraine despite its non-aligned status, Jamie Shea, Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Emerging Security Challenges at NATO Headquarters told a roundtable "Security in 21st century," ForUm correspondent reports.

In particular, he said that partnership policy of Ukraine and NATO has not changed. "Ukraine takes part in NATO operations, and I hope will continue its participation in the future," the official noted and added that Ukraine and NATO are working and will work under flexible formats, such as fight against piracy and prevention of cybercrimes.
 
Jamie Shea also declared that the Alliance respects the choice of Ukraine regarding its non-aligned status. "However, the membership is still on the table, in case Ukraine chooses to join the Alliance," he underlined.

At the same time the Deputy Assistant Secretary General added that NATO membership is not required for development of joint programs with Ukraine.
