The priest of Ukrainian Orthodox church, detained for drunken driving, has been suspended for three months from holding services. In addition, he was obliged to carry out obedience of a reader during these three months, "Orthodoxy in Ukraine" reported.
The priest himself asked the society and traffic police officers for forgiveness and expressed deep remorse for his behaviour on the road.
"I sincerely repent of my actions. This was a way the God chose to visit me, and it has become a good lesson for me. I want to underline that what happened is my personal sin, and I don't want this situation to become a temptation for those who love Christ. Once again I ask for your forgiveness," the priest said.
