The daughter of jailed former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko says her mother is being denied access to painkillers despite being in "horrendous" pain.

Yevhenia Tymoshenko told reporters on February 9 that her mother has been bedridden for three months with severe back pain.

"I filed a statement to the Prosecutor General's Office against those crimes which are committed against my mother every day. Those crimes consist in the fact that she is illegitimately tried, medical aid is not rendered to her, health care is not provided to her, all the time she is in pain and unable to move," Yevhenia Tymoshenko said in a statement and added that her concern is that in prison people, including her mother, are tortured, which is a crime according to national and international law.

The authorities have agreed to Tymoshenko's request to be examined by an independent, international medical panel. Those experts are expected to arrive on February 13.
