By the beginning of Euro-2012 almost 35 thousand police officials will speak basic English, Interior Ministry spokesman Volodymyr Polishchuk told a briefing, ForUm correspondent reports.
"According to the information of territorial departments of the Ministry, about 11.9 thousand police officials and militaries already speak English, sufficient for basic communication," Polishchuk said.
In addition, he informed that this year Interior Ministry's education institutions graduate about eight thousand law enforcement officials with knowledge of English. "They will assist police officials in communication with foreigners. We are also considering engaging volunteers, speaking English," the IM spokesman said.
In response to the question about the level of knowledge of English Polishchuk said: "Of course they cannot read English classics in original, but will be able to ask for address or any other necessary information."
