Anomaly cold winter has revealed strong and weak points of Ukrainian energy sector, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said at a meeting with representatives of public organizations on energy effectiveness, ForUm correspondent reports.
According to Azarov, among the strong points is an ability of domestic energy sector to work at the limit of its capacity. "During the period of strong cold capacity of Ukrainian energy system reached 32 thousand Mwatt and all systems worked effectively," he said.
"At the same time, the weal point of our energy sector is big energy consumption, especially comparing to European standards. The major part of equipment of Ukrainian power plants was installed back in 1960ies and 70ies. What effectiveness we can talk about under such conditions?" the Premier noted.
Azarov informed that the state budget for 2012 plus financial assistance of European institutions guarantee implementation of the state program on energy efficiency for 2010-2015.
