Shakhtar Donetsk coach Mircea Lucescu is not well enough to join his team in Turkey despite leaving hospital after a car crash last month, the club's website said Tuesday, according to RIA Novosti.

Lucescu had been receiving treatment for several broken ribs and concussion in Romania after his car collided with a tram in Bucharest on January 8, and had surgery to remove fluid from his chest cavity.

He left hospital on January 23 but has not sufficiently recovered to make several flights to meet the team at their winter training base in Antalya, club doctors said.

"He wants to come," the website quoted club physio Carlo Nicolini as saying. "But there is a problem that it would involve too many flights. And for him that is undesirable now," he said.

Former Romania national team boss Lucescu is one of Europe's most experienced managers, with spells at Inter Milan and Galatasaray. He suffered a heart attack in 2009.

Shakhtar had finished in an offseason tournament in Dubai with the fourth place, are a point behind leaders Dynamo Kiev in the Ukrainian Premier League. The winter break ends in March.
