From January 1 convicted prisoners of penal colonies in Ukraine can call their relatives on the phone without limitations, manager of the Kharkiv group on human rights Andriy Didenko told a press conference.
Didenko reminded that corresponding amendments to the legislation came into force on January 1, 2012. The human rights activist specified that without limitations means during non-sleeping and non-working time.
According to Didenko, prisoners may use telephone booths, installed in every colony, or, theoretically, mobile phones, which would be kept in a certain place and given for the period of a call. "As far as I know the procedure to realize the call right has not been properly developed yet," he added.
