The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine is calling on Romania to investigate attacks on Ukrainian ships in the Romanian part of the Danube River.
"We invited a representative of the Embassy of Romania in Ukraine to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and gave him a relevant note, expressing concern about bandit attacks on Ukrainian vessels. We demand a full investigation of these incidents, and ask for informing the Ukrainian side of the investigation," a spokesman for the Ukrainian MFA, Oleksandr Dykusarov said, UKRINFORM reports.
He emphasized that the foreign ministry also instructed the Ukrainian Embassy in Romania to refer to the Romanian law enforcement authorities in order to ensure prompt sharing of information on the investigation.
Earlier, Ukrainian Danube Shipping Company reported that pirate attacks on its fleet have become regular in recent years. Reportedly, it concerns non-powered vessels, which have to stay on the anchorage without supervision of self-propelled vessels' crews.
