A criminal case against Ex.ua web resource has been instituted basing on complaints and appeals from companies-right holders on copyright violations, spokesman for Interior Ministry Volodymyr Polishchnuk told a press conference.

According to him, the case was instituted on July 1, 2011 after the Interior Ministry had received a number of appeals from representatives of world soft ware producers, a domestic TV company and state service on intellectual property regarding the violation of copyright of the mentioned companies.

On January 31, 2012 investigative bodies withdrew information carriers from the office of the company and sent them to an expertise. "Now the expertise will study the information (illegally published content) and will determine the amount of financial losses of the companies-right holders," the official added.

President's press secretary, Darya Chepak said in her blog on Ukrainska Pravda website that the official website of Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych is being attacked by hackers.

"The official website of the Ukrainian president has been attacked by unknown individuals since last night. The Interior Ministry's website has hung as a result of this attack. Social networks are making calls to join the attack on the websites of state institutions in order to support file-sharing sites that do not comply with copyright protection. Do people who attack the sites understand what they are doing?" the press secretary said, according to UKRINFORM.

"I support the right of every citizen to protest. But if we build a civilized society, the freedom of the fist of one citizen is limited to the nose of another. Therefore, I'm asking you, those who attack the sites, to find another place for protest, without limiting the citizen's right of access to information," Chepak said.
