A resolution of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), approved on Thursday in Strasbourg, will help strengthen democracy in Ukraine and will attach to reforms, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine said in a statement.

"The recently adopted resolution of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe has become the victory of a balanced assessment and common sense over another attempt to move the political struggle to the European arena," reads the statement, UKRINFORM reports.

"The criticism in the Resolution, in general, is aimed at attaching Ukraine to conducting legal and political reforms. This is what the Ukrainian authorities are now working on to implement the commitments of Ukraine to the Council of Europe, which the previous government failed to implement since 1995. This is evidenced, in particular, by the draft new Code of Criminal Procedure introduced by the President of Ukraine to the Verkhovna Rada developed in line with the standards of the Council of Europe," the Foreign Ministry's press office reported.

Therefore, in the ministry have no doubt that "in the foreseeable future, Ukraine will fulfill its commitments to the Council of Europe".

The statement also notes that the debate that preceded the approval of the resolution "demonstrated the desire of European politicians to deeply understand all the peculiarities of the democratic process in Ukraine".
