Ukraine hopes to sign an agreement on a free trade area with Canada in 2012, Deputy Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin said a meeting of the Press Club, according to UKRINFORM.

"We hope this year to achieve decisive progress (in signing the agreement)," he said, stressing the success of the last round of negotiations with Canada on this issue.

Furthermore, Klimkin voiced hopes for a speedy completion of the process to establish a free trade area with Turkey and Israel.

A reminder that President Viktor Yanukovych had instructed the government to take additional steps to conclude a free trade area agreement with Canada yet in December 2010. At that time, the Ukrainian Ambassador to Canada Ihor Ostash had predicted the signing of the agreement in 2011.
