Both the EU and Ukraine are interested in signing the free trade agreement, chairman of EC representative office in Ukraine Jose Manuel Pintu Teishera said at Euro-Atlantic forum "Ukraine and the EU on the eve of new Association agreement," ForUm correspondent reports.
According to Teishera, Ukraine should decide what format of rapprochement it is interested in and how it can realize such rapprochement.
"The question is whether the country is ready to adopt European values. Hence, the new law on state purchase was supposed to bring Ukraine closer to Europe, but it has not happened. In addition, there is a problem in the national business sphere," he said.
Teishera also underlined that the EU does not force Ukraine to choose between integration with Europe or with Russia.
"We are interested in development of your relations with all neighbors, in competitiveness of Ukrainian economy and in improvement of living standards of the population. However, in case of signing free trade agreement with the EU, the level of integration and respective advantages will be notably better than in case of free trade agreement with CIS," the official summed up.
