Rejecting expensive Russian gas Rivne region will promote peat production, deputy governor of the region Volodymyr Novak said, presenting projects on energy saving and energy efficiency to participants of interregional case study.

According to the press office of the regional administration, Novak said the region would focus on usage of local resources.

Last year the state enterprise on peat production increased the production by 15% comparing to 2010. Peat briquettes and milling fuel peat meet the demand of housing and communal services of Rivne region, as it has high heating capacity, the official informed.

Scientists and experts have calculated that 78 tons of peat briquettes replace 36 thousand cu m of gas, hence usage of peat energy saves up to 144 thousand hryvnias. "Retargeting of boiler-houses to local energy resource allows saving money and promoting peat production," Novak summed up.
