Ukraine is turning to the policy of energy independence and efficiency, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov told a session of the Cabinet, ForUm correspondent reports.

Azarov underlined that Ukraine intends to reduce gradually the import of Russian gas and to continue talks on gas price reduction.

"We will certainly continue the talks on revision of unfair contracts and unjust gas price, but for now we focus on domestic resources and the latest technologies. Ukraine will consume less expensive foreign gas and will produce more of its own," he said.

In addition, the Premier noted a necessity to increase the part of coal in the energy balance of the country, to reduce energy intensity of production and housing services to the European level.
