Romania intends to investigate attacks on ships of the Ukrainian Danube Shipping Company (Izmail, Odesa region, southern Ukraine) on the Romanian sector of Danube River, the press service of the Romanian Embassy in Ukraine reported.

According to the report, suspects in the theft of 1,745 kg of metal scrap from the Zvezdny motorship barges (flying Ukrainian colors) have been identified, and on March 8, 2011 the case was referred to the prosecutor's office at the Constanta (Romania) court with a proposal of referring to court.
"The other cases are under investigation and, accordingly, settlement by the authorities in charge," the report says, according to UKRINFORM.

The embassy also noted that, in order to ensure reliability and safety of the navigable part of the Danube on the border between Romania and Bulgaria, joint Romanian-Bulgarian maritime patrols were established on the basis of the protocol on cooperation between the border police of both countries, and a series of operations were conducted.

As reported, earlier the Ukrainian Danube Shipping Company declared regular attacks on its ships in the Romanian section of the river Danube. In particular, according to the company, the Zvezdny was attacked in 2010. The shipping company also accused Romanian authorities of connivance of such attacks.
