Two Ukrainians have been rescued from the Edirne, a tanker that sank off the coast of Albania as a result of an explosion on January 15, and they are currently in hospital, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleksandr Dykusarov informed, UKRINFORM reported.

"The Edirne, a tanker with two citizens of Ukraine on board, sank in the territorial waters of Albania on January 15 this year. The Ukrainian citizens have been saved, hospitalized, and there is no threat to their life and health," he said, referring to the Ukrainian Embassy in Greece.

Tthe Edirne sank near the Albanian port of Durres on Sunday, January 15. According to Turkish media, there were three citizens of Azerbaijan, three Turkish nationals, six Georgians and two Ukrainians on board the tanker.

Two citizens of Georgia and a citizen of Azerbaijan died in the accident.
