President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych proposes to introduce the institute of trial jury, President's aid Andriy Portnov told a briefing.
According to Portnov, such initiative is included into the draft bill on Criminal Procedure Code, submitted by the President.
The document foresees that suspects of grave crimes, who face life sentence, can demand the trial jury. The jury will consist of two judges and three jurors. Candidates for jury will be nominated by local communities, and automatic system will determine seven candidatures. After the challenge procedure a court will announce three jurors, who will be granted guarantees of judges, including immunity, for the trial period.
