In December of the last year the average temperature in Ukraine exceeded the norm by 3-5 degrees, head of the Meteorological Office Mykola Kulbida told a press conference, ForUm correspondent reports.

According to the official, the same tendency continues in January. Among the reasons of such warm weather, Kulbida named the domination of relatively warm air masses over the territory of Ukraine, arrived from the Atlantic.

The official says that the weather in December and January proves tendencies of climate warming in the region.

Kulbida pointed out that if such tendency remains for the next 50 years Ukraine must think now about the reformation of separate sectors of economy. The official explained that already now the authorities should think about re-zoning of a number of agricultural plantations, as climate warming may bring droughts, especially in zones of plains and forest-steppe. "It is possible the climate in theses zones will become sub-tropical, as in Bulgaria or north of Greece," the meteorologist said.

According to Kulbida, now is also the time to think about future fresh water deficit.
