The number of cases of rabies disease has drastically increased in Zaporizhzhya region, regional sanitary and epidemiologic service reports.
"During October-December 2011 period the situation with rabies drastically worsened: 25 animals were diagnosed with the diseased in this period, while for the previous nine months the number of the diseased was 43," the report says.
According to the data of the regional sanitary and epidemiologic service, the number of people, suffered from bites, has also increased - more than 1 200 people were prescribed for vaccination.
According to the Zaporizhzhya sanitary and epidemiologic service, the situation with rabies cases has worsened due to lack of vaccines against the disease.
"Due to the fact that the Health Ministry has allocated only 53.5% of the required financing for vaccines, medical institutions of the region had to purchase vaccines with their own funds, which resulted into certain difficulties regarding rendering medical assistance to people, bitten by sick animals," Zaporizhzhya sanitary and epidemiologic service admits.
