Within the next three year Kyiv metropolitan municipal enterprise plans to upgrade about 250 metro carriages, Volodymyr Fedorenko, head of the enterprise, told "Kyiv" TV channel, ForUm learned from the press office of Kyiv city administration.

"Now we have an opportunity to get about one milliard hryvnias for the development of metropolitan. The matter concerns the special-purpose means from "green investments" provided by Kyoto protocol. We plan to use this means for upgrading of current metro carriages. The examination of the carriages showed that the main details are in good conditions and that the carriages can run for another ten years. We plan to implement the latest technologies in order to reduce energy consumption and to upgrade interior design of carriages to make them more comfortable," the official said.

Fedorenko informed that for now there is a possibility to finance upgrading of 185 carriages. "We are holding talks with Japanese colleagues in order to attract more investments and to finance upgrading of all 250 carriages. These are the plans for 2014-2015 years," the official said.
