Ukraine's former Prime Minister and opposition leader Yulia Tymoshenko has been moved from Kyiv pre-trial detention facility to a penal colony in Kharkiv region, the State Penitentiary Service said in a statement on Friday.

"On December 30, at 08.00 a.m., Yulia Tymoshenko was moved to a penal colony in Kharkiv region," the statement reads.

It is also reported that before leaving, Tymoshenko was examined by doctors who came to the conclusion that her condition and state of health allows transportation.

In his turn, Oleksandr Turchynov, the first deputy head of the Batkivshchyna Party, says former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko was moved from the Lukyanivka pre-trial detention facility in Kyiv without any warning.

“We just learned this from the deputies that are currently at the Lukyanivka jail. Yulia Tymoshenko was awoken at night without warning and explanation and early this morning she was moved with a wheelchair to a prison van and sent towards Kharkiv. This information was given to us by the detention facility administrators, who have been hiding this fact from the MPs for two hours,” Oleksandr Turchynov told journalists today.

At the same time, State Penitentiary Service officials denied reports that the ex-prime minister was allegedly moved in a wheelchair ands states that a comfortable minibus was provided for her transportation.
