President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych has signed an amendment to the law of Ukraine "On perpetuation of the victory in the Great Patriotic war of 1941-1945 years", ForUm learned from the presidential press office.

According to the amendment, feature films and documentaries about the Great Patriotic war of 1941-1945 years must be shown free of charge in state and municipal cinemas and other culture institutions during May month.

The presidential press office notes that the signing of the amendment will promote people's awareness about heroic deeds of defenders and liberators, will satisfy cultural and spiritual demands of war veterans, will preserve the memory about tragic pages of the country's history and will train patriotism and respectful attitude towards older generation among the youth.

The law comes into force from January 1, 2012.
