The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Volodymyr Lytvyn stresses that the state gas transportation system is not for sale. "Even if we hypothetically imagine such situation, this would mean that we have to take off our last shirt and sell it," said in an interview with "Rada" TV-channel.

At the same time Lytvyn raised a question on how to use the gas transportation system. "I believe that we need to involve the owner of the gas - Russia and consumers of the gas - Europe.  We should have created a gas transportation consortium long time ago to guarantee gas delivery through Ukrainian pipe and to guarantee Ukraine's dividends from that," the speaker said.

He reminded that this issue had already been discussed and some decisions had been taken by President Leonid Kuchma, the Russian Federation and Germany. "But our eternal opponents, who declare ideas of national purity, stigmatized and criticized the plans, and therefore nothing was attained."

The speaker once again pointed out that the matter concerns the creation of a gas transportation consortium, "and nothing more." "No one is going to give up," he added.

According to Lytvyn, Ukraine "should understand risks and challenges and should have common responsibility taking into account the global tendencies and vulnerability of Ukrainian economy."
