The Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, has refused to put on its agenda bill No. 9533 introducing amendments to the Criminal Code of Ukraine regarding the harmonization of the national criminal law with the United Nations Convention against Corruption. Only 156 MPs voted for this decision, with at least 226 votes required, UKRINFORM reports.

This document, which was registered in the Verkhovna Rada by BYuT-Batkivshchyna MP Viktor Shvets, proposed decriminalizing the article of the Criminal Code of Ukraine under which former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko was convicted. The Regions Party, the Communist Party and the People's Party did not vote for this decision.

The parliament has started considering Ukraine's draft state budget for 2012 in its second reading.
