Next year the traffic police department of the Interior Ministry of Ukraine will submit to the parliament a proposition to oblige pedestrians to wear flickers during night time, head of the security department of the traffic police Serhiy Budnyk told the press, ForUm correspondent reports.

According to Budnyk, the ratio of dead in accidents in Ukraine is 10.6 per 100 thousand people, i.e. 10 people every 24 hours. "A lot of pedestrians got hit to death because of poor lighting during night time, especially in small towns," the official said.

He added that if the amendments to the law on traffic are adopted the police department will hold information campaign and following Estonian experience will introduce flickers for pedestrians.

In his turn Estonian ambassador to Ukraine Lauri Lepik informed that center "Dobrochyn" together with law enforcement bodies is realizing Ukrainian-Estonian project on reduction of accidents. "For this purpose we have bought 50 thousand flickers, and within the information campaign we distribute in schools 600-800 flickers daily.
