Batkivshchyna Party leader and former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko has decided not to participate in her appeal of her conviction in the case involving gas deals with Russia and further cassation appeals of the court’s decision.

“Watching from jail the show that this appeal has become, I want to refuse participation in any appeal review and further cassation,” Serhiy Vlasenko said, reading a letter written by Yulia Tymoshenko, after the presiding judge put to discussion the possibility of continuing the proceedings without the ex-premier, Tymoshenko's official website reports.

In her statement, Yulia Tymoshenko also called unacceptable speculation about her health and ability to appear in court.

After the statement was read, Judge Sitaylo adjourned the hearing until December 23.

Yulia Tymoshenko’s defense team also abandons further participation in the hearings of the appeal against her October 11 conviction.

“I've read the statement by Yulia Tymoshenko, who has decided to end her participation in this farce. This decision applied not only to Yulia Tymoshenko, this decision was made by her with regard to all the members of our side,” Serhiy Vlasenko told journalists after the hearing.

“The defense has done everything possible for this process. We demanded that all witnesses that weren’t questioned by the court of first instance be questioned by the appeals court, we demanded that documents be added to the case file, including gas contracts, we demanded that normal expert reviews be conducted. The court refused to do all of this” Serhiy Vlasenko said.
