The state veterinary and sanitary service of Ukraine has announced rabies quarantine in Podol district of Kyiv in order to liquidate the seat of disease, press office of the department informed.

Neighbouring territories - Shevshenko, Obolon and Svyatoshyn districts - are announced a risk zone.
The report says that on December 15, 2011 a Kyiv resident of Podol district arrived in a hospital with dog bites. The animal was diagnosed with rabies. "It is the first case of rabies in Kyiv for the last 20 years," vets say.

"The state veterinary service is holding examination and vaccination of animals, kept near the seat of disease. Animals, suspected of having rabies, will be watched for 60 days," the report says.
