President Viktor Yanukovych has congratulated police officers and veterans on their professional holiday, celebrated in Ukraine on December 20.

The President pointed to the inadmissibility of police officers’ formal attitude to the job "Working for appearances’ sake by formal indices distorts the very essence of policing. My categorical requirement is that you must work for a man and for the sake of a man," said Viktor Yanukovych, ForUm learned from the presidential press office.

He expressed the belief that citizens being well protected should be the determining criterion for the police. Indeed, he said, in the eyes of the people a policeman represents the state power hence they should reliable defenders.

Viktor Yanukovych emphasized the inadmissibility of even rare cases of violation of law by the police, such as corruption, personal violence, etc. "Such actions diminish the credibility of the state, undermine the credibility of the law," he said.

"Every person must feel secure. The main thing is that everyone felt support and was sure that the state is protecting their lives and interests," Viktor Yanukovych said.

On the occasion of Police Day, the President of Ukraine presented national decorations to the best of police officers.
