The legislation of Ukraine on gender equality must correspond with the European one, MP of Ukraine Yulia Kovalevska told a press conference on the occasion of the completion of the joint UN and EU program 'On equal opportunities and rights for women in Ukraine,' ForUm correspondent reports.

"Discrimination of women is economically unprofitable for the country. The legislation on gender equality must correspond with the European laws. Our parliamentary faction will initiate adoption of relevant draft bills. Inequality slows down the development of the country," the MP said.

According to her, within the realization of the program it is planned to create councils under regional administrations, engaged into consideration of discrimination cases. "It is also planned to assign aids on gender issues to 12 governors of Ukraine and to assign coordinators to every body of executive power," Kovalevska informed.
