Presiding over the OSCE, Ukraine will prioritize raising efficiency of this organization to prevent conflicts and regulate the pending ones, speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Volodymyr Lytvyn said at a meeting with Mayor of Famagusta region (Derinia), former Chairman of the Parliament of the Republic of Cyprus A. Galanos, ForUm learned from the parliamentary press office.

Lytvyn said that Ukraine calls for a peaceful regulation of the so-called frozen conflicts in line with the international law and the principle of respect for the territorial integrity within the internationally recognized borders and for the state sovereignty.

Presiding over the OSCE, Ukraine will take up a balanced stand on the pressing issues of the agenda. Ukraine is ready to make the organization more effective to the benefit of its members. The speaker thinks that as a non-aligned state, Ukraine can play a constructive uniting role in the security dialogue on the OSCE platform. 

Ukraine was elected for presidency in the OSCE in 2013 by the consensus resolution of the OSCE Council of Ministers of 23.11.10 which was ratified by the leaders of fifty-six states of the OSCE member nations in the final act of the OSCE Summit in Astana on 01-02.12.10 р.
