Ministry for infrastructure of Ukraine initiates increase of import duties for cars with engine capacity of more than four liters, Deputy Infrastructure Minister Kostyantyn Yefimenko told a briefing, ForUm's correspondent reports.
According to Yefimenko, the Ministry proposes to set the duty at 20-25 thousand dollars and to send the money for road construction.
The Deputy Minister also proposes to unify excise duty for diesel fuel to make it only 90 euros per ton.
He explained that under this duty only nine thousand tons of diesel fuel is imported in Ukraine annually, which is a drop in the ocean within the volumes of diesel consumption in Ukraine.
"We have to increase and unify the duty for import and production of diesel fuel. 90 euros is nothing, as Ukraine gets seven million tons of diesel fuel annually," he noted and added that there is a lot of smuggled fuel imported in Ukraine, and no duties are paid at all.
According to Yefimenko, realization of these measures will attract up to two milliard hryvnias into road construction annually.
The increase of import duties for luxurious cars will be considered by the government in January of the next year.
