80% of fish products in Ukraine are imported, expert on agrarian markets Oleksandr Yaroslavski told a press conference "New Year basket of Ukrainians", ForUm correspondent reports.
According to the expert, domestic market of fish industry depends on external circumstances, including new trends, quotas for catch, fluctuation of currency rates.
"Our import dependence results in imbalance, when Ukraine's norm of fish consumption per person annually is 16 kilos, while the world medical norms indicate 30 kilos. At the same time the country has huge, but unused potential of domestic breeding of fish and production of fish products," Yaroslavski summed up.
