First deputy health minister of Ukraine Raisa Moiseyenko forecasts that by the end of the year the number of cases of measles in Ukraine will reach 500.

Speaking at a briefing she informed that of November 1 there were 193 cases of measles registered in Ukraine, but taking into account the tendency of the last two months the Health Ministry forecasts the number of cases will reach 500 by the year end, ForUm correspondent reports.

Moiseyenko also added that the situation is serious but not critical. For comparison she voiced the statistics of 2006, when there were registered 42 thousand cases of measles disease.

As one of the factors of the epidemic outburst the Health Ministry names poor quality vaccines in late 80ies and early 90ies. "At that time the vaccines were bought without a system and were kept in improper conditions. In addition, a part of vaccines was got as a humanitarian aid," Moiseyenko said.
The deputy health minister also informed that the Ministry would ask the government for additional 130 million hryvnias for purchasing vaccines of various kinds.

According to Moiseyenko, with this money the Ministry also plans to create a reserve of vaccines for future years.
