Scientists warn about collapse of Kyiv Dam
Kyiv water reservoir has been named the most dangerous place on earth. Such statement was made by Vasiliy Kredo, the head of the independent international group of scientists on forecasting disaster after-effects. According to him, accident rate of Kyiv Dam is 93%. The dam can wrack under the smallest earthquake, and then the northern regions of Ukraine will be covered with radioactive mud, Segondya newspaper reports.

The scientist assures that he Council of Europe repeatedly raised the question on liquidation of the Kyiv Sea and even was allegedly ready to allocate one milliard dollars for this.

In response, the Ukrainian water power association "Ukrhydroenergo" told that similar statements appear several times a year. "We are tired to refute the statements of this organization on alleged collapse of the dam. After a number of repeated inspections our inspectors and scientists came to the conclusion that Kyiv Dam is in a working order and does not pose any threat," the press office of the association informed.

Anatoly Yatsik, the director of the Ukrainian research institute on water ecological problems also assures that Kyiv HPP does not constitute any danger. "HPP is designed for 100 years of service, and it has been in operation less than a half of the term. The Kyiv Dam has been built taking into account various natural disasters, including earthquakes," he said.
