The Health Ministry of Ukraine has increased five times the social payments, provided by the state budget to HIV-positive children, head of the State service on HIV/AIDS Tetyana Aleksandryna informed.

According to Aleksandryna, from the next year the payments are increased from 498 hryvnias per year up to 2 040 hryvnias per year (170 hryvnias monthly).

A representative of the charity organization "All-Ukrainian net of people, living with HIV" Kateryna Dudkina noted that such increase is extremely important, as HIV-positive children need special nutrition, and their parents have to buy regularly expensive products. In addition, some education institutions, including kindergartens often deny entry for HIV-positive children, despite the legislation, which levels the rights of children regardless their state of health, and despite the fact that HIV is not contagious through social contact. In this case one of the parents is forced to stay home with a child, which increases financial vulnerability of a family, Dudkina told.

At the same time experts admit that even after such significant increase (five times) the social payments will not help much, taking into account the prices, but still this is a progress regarding the state's attitude towards HIV-positive children.
