It is of principle importance for Ukraine, that the Association Agreement between the EU and Ukraine reflected our country’s prospects of joining the EU, President Viktor Yanukovych said at the fifth meeting of the Council Presidents of Ukraine and Lithuania, ForUm learned from the presidential press office.
"This issue is very important and of principle. Ukraine insists that the prospects for Ukraine's accession to the EU were reflected in this Agreement. There will never be any other Agreement – the UE does not have such a practice – and therefore, the Agreement we will have is strategic and very important for us," he said.
"It is important that this Agreement incorporated all the points that would stimulate the development of our relations and, of course, create incentives for the reform process in Ukraine" said Viktor Yanukovych.
The President stressed that Ukraine has already achieved quite good results in the area of economic integration with the EU – the negotiations on a comprehensive free trade area are almost complete, the first part of the roadmap for visa liberalization has been implemented. "I hope that during the December Summit we would already get the second part and continue to move in that direction," he said.
