President Viktor Yanukovych congratulated Ukrainian farmers on the excellent harvest collected in 2011. "We have already threshed more than 50 million tons of grain, and expect to get 55 million tons total, which can become a historical record for the country. I congratulate those present in this hall and all the farmers of the country on this success," said Viktor Yanukovych at a meeting on the occasion of the Agriculture Worker’s Day.

He stressed that Ukraine’s agricultural sector demonstrates a strong growth tendency. In 10 months of this year, agricultural production grew by nearly 17%. "This year, Ukraine has firmly secured its place as a leading grain producing state of the world," he said, adding that by the volume of wheat exports our state ranked 8th in the world, corn – 3rd, and barley – 1st.

Viktor Yanukovych praised the success of Poltava region farmers (5 million tons of grain threshed), Vinnytsa region (over 4 million tons), Dnipropetrovsk, Odesa, Cherkasy, Kirovohrad and Kharkiv regions (more than 3 million tons each).

On the occasion of farmers’ professional holiday the President presented national decorations.
