Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov stands for state control over prices on medicine and enlargement of domestic production of medicine.

Speaking during today's session of the Cabinet Azarov underlined that absence of VAT for medicine results in artificial price rise, ForUm correspondent reports.

"You remember, once the government suggested introducing VAT for imported medicine in order to make importers to declare real price at the border. We were convinced then that importers will disburden VAT paying upon customers. Pharmaceutical companies put up a fight against such decision, referring to interests of patients. But if fact people stand for restriction of price racketing," he said.

Azarov suggested following the example of Europe, where prices for medicine are controlled and regulated by the state. He informed that tomorrow he will call a meeting to discuss these problems, and Health Ministry will have to submit a number of draft bills on regulation of prices for medicine.

The Premier also pointed out the necessity to enlarge the domestic production of medicine to make it cover 70% of domestic demand. "Ukraine needs 4-5 plants, like Darnitsa pharmaceutical complex. I ordered to work out by the end of this year a program on formation corresponding enterprises," Azarov summed up.
