Any government interference with the work of courts is impossible in Ukraine, and it is well understood in Europe, President Viktor Yanukovych said after his meeting with the Presidents of Poland and Germany when answering questions about the Yulia Tymoshenko case.

"I have informed that there would be a court of appeal meeting, the process of investigating other areas of Yulia Tymoshenko’s activities is going on,” he said, ForUm learned from the presidential press office.

According to Viktor Yanukovych's there are no political grounds in the criminal case against Yulia Tymoshenko.

President Yanukovych added that Yulia Tymoshenko’s case affects the progress of European integration of Ukraine. "This question, of course, is hampering the European integration of Ukraine now," he said. Sadly, he stressed, there are attempts to mix the issues of European integration of Ukraine with the issues of criminal cases against Tymoshenko and their consideration by courts. "But time goes on and we are unable to predict today, how it will end. Only the court can give answer to this question," said Viktor Yanukovych.

He reminded that the criminal case against Yulia Tymoshenko had been opened on behalf of the National Security Council in 2009. "Therefore, any criticism of the current government is not exactly correct. Law enforcement agencies continued doing their job, they brought the case to court and the court considered it," he said.

Viktor Yanukovych also said that cases against Tymoshenko have been considered by the courts of Russia and the U.S., but have not been brought to a logical conclusion in Ukraine due to the lack of documents. "There were not enough documents, and facts. The documents and facts are now studied by the investigators and law enforcement agencies," he said.
