Ukraine's tax police expects to complete by the year end the investigation into a criminal case opened against former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko on the activities of the United Energy Systems of Ukraine (UESU) Corporation, the first deputy chief of tax police and the chief of the main investigative department at the State Tax Service, Anatoliy Yakovynets, told a briefing in Kyiv on Monday.

"I think that by the end of this month, or by the end of the next month, if the defense team and prosecutor's office allow, we will complete the pre-trial investigation and send the case to court," he said.

According to him, Tymoshenko was charged with crimes, registered in both Criminal Codes of 1960 and 2001.

Yakovynets explained that the article of the Criminal Code of 1960 concerns currency operations and provides for more lenient punishment than the same article of 2001.
