The Russian currency will be present in the gold and foreign currency reserves of Ukraine, and its share will increase, Head of the Group of Advisers to the National Bank Governor Valeriy Lytvytsky told a press conference, according to UKRINFORM.
He underscored that the Russian ruble, like the Chinese yuan, has a perspective in the future to become one of the world's reserve currencies. "I think it may happen quicker than anyone prognosticates," the expert believes.
Lytvytsky also said that central banks of Ukraine and Russia are holding talks on a mechanism of settlements in Russian rubles.
"Use of the ruble for carrying out rather considerable external payment operations will take place, possibly, even this year, but this information is preliminary. Negotiations are held between central banks, state and commercial banks as regards mechanisms for holding such settlements. But it is still early to speak what this mechanism will be," he said.
To remind, earlier, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has said that he considers as real settlements of Ukraine with Russia for gas in rubles since December 2011.
